Biwako Waterfowl Wetland Center(BWWC) was established in May 14 1997, for promoting preservation of waterfowl and conservation of Lake Biwa which became one of Ramsar Sites in 1993.
BWWC is the third facility for the Ramsar Sites in Japan, following Lake Kuccharo (Sorry, Japanese only) andLake Akkeshi - Bekanbeushi Marsh in Hokkaido
Construction cost and Management
The Japanese Environment Agency invested approximately 2 million U. S. dollars in the construction of the BWWC. The national government entrusts its management to Kohoku town.

The first floor has a 50-seat lecture room and a studying room for ecological investigations and conservation of wetland. The second floor has exhibition. On thebig screen you can watch the live picture relayed by the video camera on the third floor. Furthermore, photographs, panels(Japanese), and computer game(Japanese) will serve you information about "Lake Biwa and Ramsar Convention", "Waterfowl of Lake Biwa" and so on.
