Has anyone heard any more news regarding FTD #6 ?
'Also Sprach Zarathustra' and 'See See Rider' was not taped. They've included a version of 'See See Rider' from Odessa 05/30, matinee show and 'Love Letters' from the same date,but this time from the evening show. Some edits have been done as well in order to fit the show into one cd. The cover is not finished, but the photo seen on worldwideelvis.com appears to be the one they' ve chosen for the cover. FTD # 6, TUCSON '76; Recorded in Tucson, Arizona, 1st June 1976
Ernst Jorgensen just gave me the definitive confirmation that the 6th FTD
release will be a soundboard recording of Elvis' concert in Tucson, Arizona
on June 1st, 1976. This concert was chosen because Elvis is in very good
voice, he's in a good mood, and the concert has some very nice surprises.
Jorgensen played the concert for me, and I agree wholeheartedly. This
concert will surprise many of you. Many of the usual songs from that period
are there, but there's also a great rockin' BURNING LOVE (with a long
finale), followed by the first surprise of the evening, an excellent version
of HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT. After that Elvis asks: "what do you
wanna hear?", and people shout all kinds of songtitles. Somebody even asks
for THE LAST FAREWELL, and Elvis acknowledged that it's on his latest album,
but that they can't play it. He then says that they could do something else
from that album, and DANNY BOY is suggested. And then Elvis himself starts
doing this song (no this is not a typo, it's Elvis himself, not Sherrill
Nielsen!!!). At first both Elvis and the band seem a little unsure, but they
get more and more into the song, and it reaches a beautiful full climax.
DANNY BOY is a complete performance of 2,5 or 3 minutes (roughly) and in my
opinion it's much better than the studio version. Elvis sings it with great
feeling and determination - no fluffed lines or anything. I had goosebumps
all over while listening to this version, it's an amazing performance.

MICHAEL OMANSKY NEWS!! Michael just informed me that BLUE SUEDE SHOES (30 CD box set) will be out in July 2001. This will include 29 previously isued CD's + an interview CD!! Also, the HILLBILLY CAT LIVE CD will NOT be issued in April 2002! It was NEVER really scheduled although it MAY come out someday! This CD will NOT come out until BMG finds new Hayride or Hayride associated tapes and so far they haven't!!! |
| FTD release # 7
The next release after the Tucson '76 release on FTD Collectors' Label will contain TTWII rehearsals, and will come together with a photobook on these sessions, containing many rare full colour pix. These photos are from the collection of American mega-collector Sharif Hanna, and an agreement between Hanna and Jorgensen has just been made.
